A Clinical Observation and Nursing Care of Burn Patients


Abstract
During the period of 6 years from January 1967 to December 1972, 120 cases of burn patients were treated at the Surgical department in Su-Weon provincial Hospital. These 120 cases were reviewed and summarized as Follows:
1) The highest incidence age group was from 15 years old to 44 years old 70 cases (58.3%). The lowest incidence age group was over 45 years old 10 cases (8.3%) This fact is related to the social activity in adolescence and adulthood.
2) Male was affected more frequently than female. the ratio of male and female was 2:1
3) Seasonal distribution
The highest incidence was during spring 40 cases (33.3%) and the lowest during Summer 14 cases (11.7%)
4) The highest cause of burn was Scalding 54 cases (45%) and the lowest wos chemical 2 cases (1.7%)
5) The most frequent extent of burn surface area was 11-30% 78 cases (65%) and the least was over 70% 4 cases(3.3%)
6) The body temperature was elevated paralleling the extent of burn surface area, but it was comparatively stable
7) Location of the involved part:the lower extremity was most frquently involved 44 cases(36.7%), and the upper extremity was least 12 cases (10%).
8) The most frequent hematocrit rate was 41^¢¥50% 80 cases (66.7%) and the least was below 10% 16 cases (13.3%)
9) The most frequent duration of hospitalization was from 1 day to 7 day 40 cases (33.3%) and the least was over 49 day.
10) The most frequent complication was wound infection 24 cases (60%) 11) The mortality rate was 8.3% (10 cases).
The highest causes of death was burn shock 6 cases (50%), Then came septicemia and pneumonia in that order.
